HDD20-E in Use for the Energy Transition

The most recent development in the field of fully electric drilling rigs at STREICHER, the HDD20-E, is currently in use for the construction of the SuedOstLink direct current line in section D3a between Pfatter and the A92 near ISAR.

On behalf of TenneT TSO, STREICHER is part of a joint venture responsible for both the preparation of the work and implementation planning and the actual installation of the cable protection pipes (DA 280, DA 50, DA 140) using horizontal flush drilling and backfilling the annular space. The total length for all three drill diameters is around 19,200 metres.
The HDD20-E, together with the combined mixing truck, impresses here with its closed and self-sufficient system. The boost function, which temporarily enables a pulling force of 25 tonnes, and the electrification stand for high performance while conserving resources.

The contract runs until autumn 2026. There are particularly high requirements with regard to the low tolerance range in the position and depth of the boreholes, the strict specifications of archaeology, geology, hydrogeology and ecology, and the high safety standards.

SuedOstLink is one of the planned high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines that will transport electricity from Northern and Eastern Germany to Bavaria from 2027 onwards, as well as solar power from Bavaria to Northern and Eastern Germany.
